Questions worth asking first.
Understand the people, limits, timing and costs behind a plan name.
Can a plan help with a problem that already exists?
Advice and consultation on personal legal matters can include pre-existing issues, subject to the plan’s terms and exclusions. That does not mean every service applies to an existing dispute. For example, civil trial defense excludes pre-existing matters. Ask the provider about your specific situation.
Who in my family is included?
Covered people depend on the plan, benefit and state contract. Some benefits apply only to the member and spouse; select plans also include eligible dependents. Check the dependent definition and the covered people listed for each benefit.
Does every service start right away?
No. Some benefits have waiting periods. LegalShield’s published personal plan information, for example, lists a 180-day waiting period for certain family-law benefits and different waiting periods for traffic assistance. Review the exact benefit in your state contract.
Are divorce and adoption included?
Certain plans offer services for eligible uncontested matters. Requirements, asset limits, waiting periods and state availability apply. A contested case is not the same benefit. Review the selected tier and ask the provider to confirm eligibility.
Does a personal plan cover my business or commercial driving?
Do not assume it does. Business, commercial-driver and gig-work options have distinct terms and eligibility. Use the dedicated page for your situation and confirm any required base membership or supplement.
What else might I pay?
Depending on the service and contract, court or filing fees, expenses, service fees or discounted hourly legal work may remain payable. A membership does not promise unlimited representation or a particular outcome.
Is the published price my final price?
Published pricing is a starting point for comparison. Your state, plan, household, add-ons and enrollment channel can affect what is offered. Confirm the current price and recurring billing terms in official enrollment.
Can I enroll through Mainstay today?
Approved enrollment links are being prepared. You can explore the site and request an update now. A notification request or Mainstay account does not create a LegalShield membership.
Who handles cancellations, billing and legal service requests?
Use the official provider’s member support and the instructions in your membership contract. Mainstay can help you find the next step, but the provider controls membership records, billing and service decisions.
